To Those Who Tweet

So, I have a bit of a confession. I…am…not a huge fan of Twitter. Something about the platform has just never really stuck with me. Perhaps it’s how political the user base is, perhaps its the overly complicated news feed and messy home page. Whatever the reason, I have never made an account on Twitter. That is, until this year. Prodded to do so by a professor for a blog and opinion writing course, I decided it was the time that I finally gave in and explored Twitter. Although its taken some getting used to, I have found that there are actually some fairly interesting people on the forums every day, discussing everything from the latest in politics to decade old video game references hidden within fresh tweets. For those of you who may be interested in getting yourselves into the Twitter game, I have a few recommendations for users to follow, especially if you are into opinion writing and editorials, as the class I am taking is geared towards that kind of writing.

@shoe0nhead news feed.

1.ShoeOnHead has long been a YouTuber that I enjoy. Although I don’t agree with her stance on everything, I can appreciate the way she uses humor and sarcasm to highlight not only her opinions but the flaws in the arguments of those opposed to her. She knows what it takes to make politics and fairly controversial topics interesting and seems to have a good time poking fun at all sides of an argument. I was really glad to see that her Twitter is more of an extension of her YouTube personality than anything else.

@SomeMoreNews news feed

2.SomeMoreNews is another twitter account of a political YouTube channel that I enjoy listening to. Much like the late night talk shows and spoofs of news channels run on Comedy Central, this channel also uses humor to poke fun at some of the dumb things going on throughout the world. The channel aligns pretty well with my own feelings on politics and the host is hilarious, so I suggest after scrolling through their Twitter, you also watch a few of their YouTube videos. It will be well worth your time if you enjoy that kind of thing.

BBC News feed

3.Although not a single writer, I have always found the BBC to be a great source of news and information not just about the UK but also about the rest of the world. I especially like reading their articles on American politics as it is interesting to see what others looking from the outside think of our political system and politicians.

4. I found Phenixxgaming by chance while looking through other video game feeds. What stuck out to me about them was their interesting editorial ideas, such as the one above about dyslexia and gaming. It was an interesting read and gave me insight into something I hadn’t even thought about video games.

5. Another political writer. What caught my attention here was that he is also a blogger so I can always go to his blog and find more about his point of view if his tweets don’t do enough to clarify. He is also releasing a book which looks pretty interesting.

6. Jennifer Rubin is not someone I would typically follow on social media. However, I think it is important to get different points of view for a well rounded and healthy knowledge of politics and her writing, while definitely not what I would typically look for, is done well and gives me a good perspective into the other side of the political debate.

7.More politics for ya crazy people.

8. I found Carly Weeks’ posts to be an interesting departure from politics, as she seems to mainly focus on health and medicine news.

9.Another great account to follow if you are tired of all the politics and want to find something interesting in the wild world of science.

10.Who doesn’t like cool space photos and awesome stories from our skies?

The first assignment…

https://kotaku.com

I find Kotaku to be an interesting blog because, as you may guess just looking at the content of the website, I enjoy playing games. Kotaku takes news about the industry and spins it in a fun way that a lot of other gaming blogs don’t really do. I always find myself going to the blog for news on new games and reviews of classics, and I often find my buying decisions can be swayed by the articles on the website.
